Planning values from the Master Installation Guide, revised October 13, 2026. Product-specific instructions take precedence.
Finished coverage
170 sq ft / gal
Approximate area for a standard two-coat system.
Roller application
2 coats
Use a fresh microfiber cover for each coat.
Recoat window
2–4 hours
At 77°F / 25°C and 50% relative humidity.
Airless application
2–4 coats
Build an even finish; confirm your product’s method.
Job conditions
Temperature
Above 50°F / 10°C
Relative humidity
85% maximum
Substrate moisture
Below 15%
Surface temperature
At least 5°F / 3°C above dew point
Material & equipment
Wet / dry film
4 mils wet / approximately 1.4 mils dry per standard liquid coat
Standard airless setup
Approximately 2,000 psi; .017–.021 in tip
Dry to touch
Approximately 1 hour at 77°F / 50% RH
Cleanup
Mild soap and warm water
Coverage varies with surface profile and application losses. Dry to touch is not full cure. Cooler or more humid conditions extend drying; follow the product label and current data sheet.
APPLY WITH CONFIDENCE
Choose your application system.
Standard liquid coatings, DIY powder concentrate and FLOOR have different instructions.
STANDARD LIQUID
Prepare. Prime. Coat.
Start with a clean, dry, sound and smooth substrate. Repair defects and remove dust.
For drywall and skim-coated walls, the guide specifies two coats of Paint On Screen Primer.
Maintain a wet edge. Finish in parallel strokes with about 50% overlap; use horizontal strokes on pre-curved screens.
Use the current product instructions for specialty, precious-metal, UST and clear coatings.
Skim coats must be fully dry, sanded, dust-free and primed. The Master Guide recommends a Level 5 finish for projection walls, 180–220 grit sanding and a small test patch before coating the full wall.
Inspect for lap lines, ridges, lint, uneven sheen and other defects. After the specified drying and cure times, project a test image from the intended viewing positions. Keep the product, batch, coat count and installation conditions with your project records.
Use the applicable SDS for ventilation, protective equipment and handling. The Master Guide includes additional precautions for old painted surfaces and sanding dust.
UNDERSTAND THE NUMBERS
Plan the whole projection system.
Gain & brightness
Gain varies by coating and application. Use the selected product’s published gain in the brightness calculator; a single range does not describe every product.
Viewing angle & uniformity
Check the product’s gain report for the viewing cone. Surface smoothness, coat consistency and projector placement all affect the image across the screen.
Ambient light & room finish
Consider room lighting and reflections from nearby walls and ceilings when choosing a coating. Compare products for your projector and viewing conditions.
Resolution & 3D
A smooth surface helps preserve image detail. Active-shutter and polarized 3D systems have different requirements; confirm compatibility for the exact coating.
