Estimated brightness
Equivalent luminance
ft-L = lumens × usable light × gain ÷ screen area (ft²). 1 ft-L ≈ 3.426 nits. This estimate assumes uniform illumination and does not account for ambient light, viewing angle or projector calibration. Use the gain specified for your chosen coating.

Projected directly onto a painted wall—no framed screen. Room finishes surround the separate projection coating. Projector output stays fixed; the illustration changes reflected-light washout.
Illustrative comparison. LRV values are illustrative color estimates, not measured product specifications. White uses the midpoint of the supplied 80–90% range; black uses 5%. Intermediate colors are estimated. LRV is separate from the light-bounce illustration and does not determine sound reduction or echo decay. Lighting and sound graphics are illustrative, not live measurements. Paint On Screen supplied performance figures: ceiling −5 dB; walls −7 dB; walls and ceiling −10 dB total. Sound decay can drop from over 1.5 seconds to as low as 0.4 seconds. These are room-dependent outcomes, not a guaranteed result or an additive reduction per surface. Intermediate decay times are illustrative, interpolated from an example 1.60 s baseline to 0.40 s using the 5 / 7 / 10 dB treatment proportions; they are not measured partial-treatment results. Finish color changes the lighting illustration, not the acoustic value.
Illustrative gain modelSeat angles are calculated from your dimensions. Angular gain uses editable assumptions, not measured coating curves.
Screen & seating dimensions
Distances start at the screen plane. Fan rows follow an arc; seat spacing and aisle apply to straight rows. Presets are editable starting points.
Reflection & oblique light
Move projector distance, offset or lens height to change incidence. Angle-reflective and retroreflective modes shift the assumed gain lobe. These are comparison models, not measured coating behavior.
Coating & gain assumptions
Half-gain is the one-sided angle at 50% of peak. Published viewing cones are shown for reference and are not automatically treated as half-gain measurements. Default assumptions: ±45° horizontal / ±30° vertical.

How the estimates work
Flat, vertical screens only. Angles are measured from the screen center; eye height includes row risers. The normal-centered mode places peak gain on the screen normal. Angle-reflective mode mirrors the projector direction across the normal; retroreflective mode points back toward the projector. A smooth angular falloff is applied around the chosen lobe axis: gain = peak × 2−[(horizontal / H)² + (vertical / V)²]. H and V are your assumed half-gain angles. Screen-edge gain is sampled at the corners, edge midpoints and center.
This is a planning model, not a measured product gain report. Projector-to-screen incidence and ideal reflection directions are geometric. Reflection-mode falloff is assumed; the model excludes measured ALR directionality, curved screens, obstructions, irradiance nonuniformity and real installation losses. Do not use it to predict UST/ALR performance. Changing screen size changes image angles and edge estimates; center gain depends on the seat angle and assumed curve.

Your viewing position & brightness
Directional mirror reflection follows the projector angle. Diffuse and retroreflective surfaces behave differently; choose the model that matches your coating.
Starts with the selected model’s rated lumens. Enter measured output for a closer estimate. The 16 ft-L starting target assumes a dark room; raise it for your needs.
Height, left / right & viewerLens specifications & gain assumptions
Unknown values remain unconfirmed. Manual entries override this model for your plan.
Shift percentages here use full native image width / height. Combined horizontal and vertical shift needs the manufacturer's placement chart.
Drag the eye icon to choose your seat or standing position. Drag the projector to place it. Side view: drag the screen up or down. Top view: move the screen left or right, or pull its end handles to resize. Arrow keys also work on focused handles.
Placement is a planning estimate. UST and interchangeable lenses need their installation chart and exact lens. Lens shift is not keystone. Gain and viewer colors use a nine-point screen-sampling model with editable reflection behavior and half-gain angles, not measured coating curves; they are not a guarantee of acceptable image quality. Viewer brightness is lumens × modeled gain ÷ screen area in ft². Rated output can overstate calibrated output; the estimate excludes ambient-light contrast and optical losses.

Illustrative optical model, not a measured coating curve or projector lens simulation. The gain axis follows each local surface normal, mirror direction, or projector direction. No inter-reflections, obstructions, edge blending or warping are modeled. Brightness uses a uniform angular beam, distance and incidence losses; actual projector output and coating measurements are required for design approval.
